Producciones Innatas AIE, EITB, and Euskadi Movie announced today the start of filming for Boga, a new miniseries created by Mikel Santiago (El hijo olvidado, The Last Night at Tremore Beach, the Illumbe trilogy) and Txemi Parra (BuenAgente, The Boarding School, Red Eagle). For Mikel Santiago, one of the most acclaimed authors in the thriller genre, this marks his transition from suspense novels to independent serialized fiction.
Led by Plano a Plano Bilbao (part of ITV Studios) in collaboration with Producciones Innatas AIE and Euskadi Movie, the project features Emilio Amaré and Álvaro Benítez as producers, with the latter also serving as executive producer. Eduardo Carneros is co-producer of the title. Meanwhile, ITV Studios (UK) will handle international distribution, giving the project visibility in the audiovisual industry’s most established global markets.
The series began filming on June 15 and is on location in Biscay and Álava. Mikel Rueda will direct the 6 episodes that make up the series, in addition to being part of the writing team alongside show creators Txemi Parra and Mikel Santiago. The cast is led by Iraia Elias (Amama, A Ghost in the Battle) and Mikel Losada (A Ghost in the Battle, The Dads), and features Mikel Niso (Boulevard, Infamia), Mikel Kaye (Bitartean, gero), Iker Roca (Innato), Markel Sainz (El talento, That Night), and Ander Martínez (Querer), among others.
The crew is completed by Óscar Rubio as production manager, Aitor Mendilíbar as director of photography, Haizea Huegun as score composer, Eider Ruiz as art director, Blanca Otamendi as head of makeup, Aitziber Alor as head of hair, Karla Biondini and Itxaso Beistegui as costume designers, Ángel Armada as head of post-production, and Josu Bilbao as casting director.
Synopsis
The series kicks off with five young protagonists celebrating making it to the finals of the most important rowing championship of their lives, when they accidentally run over a young woman. Their idyllic summer takes a dark turn when they decide to sink the body in the sea and make a pact of silence so that nothing and no one stands in their way to victory. However, once the Ertzaintza (Basque police) starts investigating the disappearance, pressure and guilt begin to escalate within the group to unexpected heights.
