"La Tregua" Tells the Story of Spanish Prisoners Who Survived a Soviet Gulag During World War II

Miguel Herrán and Arón Piper lead the cast of La Tregua, a gripping historical drama directed by Miguel Ángel Vivas (Cicatriz, Asedio, La Casa de Papel). After over a decade of successful television and platform productions such as El Príncipe, Valeria, Un cuento perfecto, and Allí Abajo, Plano a Plano takes on its first feature film with La Tregua.

Inspired by true events, the film centers on two soldiers, Reyes and Salgado, who fought on opposing sides during the Spanish Civil War but must endure shared hardship in a Soviet gulag during World War II. In the face of extreme cold, hunger, and the terror of life behind barbed wire, their struggle for survival forces them to set aside their ideologies and confront the humanity beneath their uniforms.

Producer César Benítez explains, “We were looking for two strong protagonists who could convey the harshness of a concentration camp under extreme conditions, while maintaining hope for the future. Both Miguel and Arón brought that strength from the very first moment.”

Miguel Ángel Vivas adds, “Since this script is based on true events, it is crucial to reflect the cruelty experienced in a concentration camp through the eyes of soldiers. We aim to translate this perspective onto the screen with the utmost respect and authenticity.”

Written by Fran Carballal (Cicatriz, Una vida menos en Canarias, La entrega), Ignasi Rubio (Desaparecidos, Alba), and Miguel Ángel Vivas, La Tregua is set for release in 2025.

A co-production by Spassks99, AIE, Amanat Capital, LTD, and Umaifilm, LLP, with collaboration from Netflix and RTVE, La Tregua is created by Plano a Plano. César Benítez, Emilio Amaré, and Álvaro Benítez are the film’s producers, with César Benítez and Emilio A. Pina serving as executive producers.
