Madrid, January 17, 2024

The Television Academy, which celebrated yesterday the 25th anniversary of the Iris Awards, has awarded our colleagues Inma Torrente and Laura M. Campos with the Antonio Mercero Award for Best Fiction Direction for their work in the series Valeria.

The professional committee in charge of the deliberation of the Jury’s Iris Awards, composed of the Talent Awards and members of the Academy’s Board of Directors, considered them worthy of the award for “bringing a feminine and current look at the world of personal relationships through fiction. For the naturalness and freshness of their scripts and for the quality of the audiovisual narration in the literary adaptation. For a careful soundtrack, very much in line with what the series wants to convey. For its bohemian and colorful portrait of the city of Madrid”.

In her speech, Laura M. Campos reflected on the role of women in the sector: “Whenever I am offered a job I end up asking myself: do they give it to me because they think I am good? Or do they give it to me because I am a woman?“, showing hope that “these awards serve to support us, to strive to make a better series, to work hard to make every day a better television, a better environment. So that those who come after us have no doubts about their worth“.

Inma Torrente thanked the jury for “valuing and rewarding the direction of a comedy“, also emphasizing the role of women in productions: “I would also like to share it with the female directors and colleagues from all departments who started working in teams where there were only men and thanks to our effort, work, talent and also the help of our colleagues, now we are more and we are not alone“.

The ceremony took place yesterday, Tuesday, January 16 at the Gran Teatro Caixabank Príncipe Pío, with the academic Luis Larrodera as master of ceremonies.
